17 March 2017 -- Resolution on UNAMA to be adopted today

The mandate of the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) ends today, March 17th. The UN Security Council will adopt the UN resolution on the renewal of UNAMA mandate today, instead of last week due to certain issues.

The issues of disagreement related to Human Rights concerning children in armed conflict, the labeling of Taliban as a terrorist group or not and the level of urgency of a strategic review of UNAMA, where the US pressed for rush. There were also UNSC members who expressed concern about the overall negotiating process lacking in transparency and inclusivity.
