ENNA met with the European Commission DEVCO and EEAS earlier this week to discuss the new EU strategy for Afghanistan, currently being drafted. ENNA was briefed on the elements of the strategy and got the opportunity to present a few complementing points, focusing on the local perspective. The points raised concerned the importance of peacebuilding at all levels, the importance of including and supporting Afghan CSOs, CBOs and community based peacebuilding, poverty reduction, the ignored family planning, the decreased funding for literacy programs, the issue of migration and the inadequate reintegration of returnees as well as anti-corruption, especially regarding extractive industries, on the one hand, and the ordinary citizen as victim of corruption, on the other hand. The points were well received by DEVCO and EEAS.
